National Electrotechnical Training (NET) have worked with Clay10 for a number of years to develop innovative and exciting ways to engage young people in the electrical industry and provide training assets to support the learning experience of apprentices.

NET approached Clay10 with the idea to develop a set of interactive videos to help candidates with some of the most common areas of failure during assessments.

The videos would first describe how to undertake the work, the common mistakes and then an interactive element would allow the apprentice to practise the procedure.

The app had to be mobile first, since that is how most candidates would access the video, so they can use the app to revise when sitting at home or travelling on the bus!

We worked with NET, and electrical industry online guru Sparky Ninja, to film five explainer videos, and even created an animated Sparky Ninja character to narrate the action and give advice.

This was supported by onscreen graphics. The interactive activities which followed each video were built in Unity and allowed the user to practice five electrical tests and answer questions to reinforce the learning experience.

The Inspection and Testing app launched in 2021 with the supporting promotional video and was very successful, with over 2,000 downloads in the first month and winning the 'Innovative Website or App of the Year' category in the Electrical Industry Awards 2021 and the Professional Electrician ‘Top Product’ of the year awards.
